Sunday 9th October 2016

After visiting Navilthirtha Dam, we proceeded to Gokak, a distance of 50 km, The road was not bad and when we reached Gokak, it was 2 pm and time for lunch. We ate in a Udupi hotel, after which proceeded to Gokak Falls, a distance of 6kms from the city.

Gokak Falls is on the Ghataprabha river in Belgavi District of Karnataka, India, After a long winding course, the Ghataprabha river takes a leap of 52 metres over the sand stone cliff amidst the picturesque gorge of rugged valley, resembling Niagara Falls on a smaller scale.

One interesting feature of this place is the monuments from Chalukya era that found on either bank of the rocky gorge. Another attraction of this place is the very old river-front temple dedicated to Lord Mahalingeshwara, built in the later Chalukyan style of architecture.

The water flow was very very less and people walk on the rocks above the water falls and peeping downwards which iwas very dangerous. We spent about an hour walking around left the place and proceeded to see another waterfalls, called GodachinaMalki.
