We (Mom, Vijaya, Smitha and Ramakrishna) set out for a trip to ShankaraNarayana, a distance of about 60 km from Udupi and reached there by 12 noon. After darshan, we had lunch at the temple premises and went to visit Khrodha Guhe.

According to the legend, ShankaraNarayana is considered one of the sapta kshetras (seven holy places) created by Parashurama. It is village located about 25km from Kundapura, in Udupi District.

It is one of the rare temples where we can see the confluence of Shankara (Lord Shiva) and Narayana (Lord Vishnu). The deity of the temple is in the form of two Udhbhava Lingas that look similar. These naturally formed lingas are one feet below the ground, inside the sanctum, The Shankara Linga is round in shape and Narayana Linga is flat.

at the entrance of Khrodha Guhe
According to Mythology, Sage Khroda Maharshi performed penance to Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu together and prayed them protect the people from demons Kharasura and Rattasura .The Lords appeared at ShankaraNarayana and killed the demons.

Khroda Giri is the hilltop where the sage performed the penance. The Khrodha Guhe is 6-feet wide cave with a 2-feet wide entrance.
