KANNADA DRAMA-"ಸೂರ್ಯಾಸ್ತದಿಂದ ಸೂರ್ಯೋದಯದವರೆಗೆ"

Saturday 12December2015
Seva Sadana, Malleshwara, Bengaluru

Scenes from the Play
The Kannada Drama "Sooryasthadinda Sooryodayadavarege" is a 75- minutes play presented by amateur artists at SevaSadana, Malleshwara, NammaBengaluru. The play is directed by NanjundeGowda with music and songs rendered by Ramachandra Hadapad.
The story is about a 10th century King of Malla Kingdom, who lost his parents at his young age and he was the only heir apparent for the Kingdom. The governing council consisting of Minister, Purohit and Security Chief installed him as King before his marriage. After five years of marriage, he did not have issues. Due to some ill health at his young age, he was impotent. His agony, trauma was his inability to satisfy the sexual desires of his wife, the Queen of the Kingdom.

The Artists -Kalavidaru
The Governing Council decides "Niyoga" for the queen with the forceful consent of MallaRaja. Niyoga is a custom followed right from the times of MahaBharatha, Ramayana. When the man is unable to cause pregnancy to his wife, she accepts another man (UpaPathi) for one night, that is "Sooryasthadinda Sooryodayadavarege".
The question continues to be, how can a woman be deprived of her ambitions, aspirations, desires and lust when the man is unable to satisfy her. When she enjoyed her desires one night with UpaPathi, she blames the society, customs, Dharma and the system. The king psychologically suffers and curses himself for his inability.

RamachandraHadapad and NanjundeGowada

Nalini with RadhikaBharadhwaj
The backup music and songs by Hadpad is melodious and soothing. All the actors put in their best effort. The MallaRaja and the Queen's performance is excellent. The emotions- pain, anger, passion, sympathy, helplessness, apathy, happiness, sorrow all well expressed.  The dialogues were extra ordinary. The stage setting and lighting was superb.
On the whole it was an a very good presentation.
