Kanthavara, near Moodabidri, Karnataka

Lord Shiva in the form of SRI KANTHESHWARA is present in Kanthavara.

Kanthara means forest. It's about 40 km from Udupi, 15 km from Moodabidri and 45 km from Mangaluru.

Before 1969, there was no road, one has to go walking in the forest to reach the place. Now there is good road and temple is renovated and neat and clean.

During the stone age, people were living hills called Ambareesh Betta (Hill). Ambarisha Saint establshed the Shivalinga is being worshipped here.

Ballala of Baaradi Beedu is temple chief looking after temple.

Sri Kantheshwara Temple is situated in the middle of beautiful nature and surroundings

It is believed that Shivalinga changes its colour from silver in the morning, copper in the afternoon and golden in the evening.

We spent about an hour in the premises and left from there.

ಸಾವಿರ ಕಂಬದ ಬಸದಿ(ತ್ರಿಭುವನ ತಿಲಕ ಚೂಡಾಮಣಿ) - ಮೂಡಬಿದ್ರಿ

ಮೂಡಬಿದ್ರಿ, ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ಕನ್ನಡ 

ಅಂದು ರಾತ್ರಿ ಸುಜಾತಳ ಮಗಳು ಡಾ ಸ್ಮಿತಾಳ ಮನೆ, ಮೂಡಬಿದ್ರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇದ್ದಿದ್ದು, ಬೆಳಿಗ್ಗೆ ಸ್ನಾನ ತಿಂಡಿಯಾದ ನಂತರ ಚಾರಿತ್ರ್ಯಿಕ ಸ್ಥಳಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡಲು ನಳಿನಿ, ಸುಜಾತರೊಂದಿಗೆ  ಹೊರಟೆವು. 

ಪ್ರಥಮವಾಗಿ, ದಕ್ಷಿಣದ ಕಾಶಿ ಎಂದೇ ಕರಯಲ್ಪಡುವ, ಮೂಡಬಿದ್ರಿಯ ನೋಡಲೇ ಬೇಕಾದ, ಪುರಾತನ ಸಾವಿರ ಕಂಬದ ಬಸದಿ, ನೂತನವಾಗಿ ಕರೆಯುವ "ತ್ರಿಭುವನ ತಿಲಕ ಚೂಡಾಮಣಿ". ಇದೊಂದು ಜೈನರ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನ.  ಇದನ್ನು 15 ನೇ ಶತಮಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ರಾಜರಾಗಿದ್ದ ದೇವರಾಯ ವಡೆಯರ್ ಅವರು ಕಟ್ಟಿಸಿದ್ದರು.

ಇಲ್ಲಿ 8 ಆಡಿಯ ತೀರ್ಥಂಕರ ಚಂದ್ರನಾಥ  ಅವರ ಮೂರ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಪೂಜಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ,  ಇದನ್ನು ಚಂದ್ರನಾಥ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನ ಎಂದೂ ಕರೆಯಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.

ಈ ದೇವಾಲಯವು ಆಗಿನ ಕಾಲದ ಶಿಲ್ಪಿಗಳು ರಚಿಸಿದ ಅದ್ಭುತ ಎಂದೇ ಹೇಳಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಪ್ರತೀ ಕಂಬವು ವಿಭಿನ್ನ, ಸೂಕ್ಷ್ಮವಾದ ಕೆತ್ತನೆಗಳು, ಏಳು ಮಂಟಪಗಳು, ವಿಜಯನಗರ ಶೈಲಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆತ್ತನೆ ಮಾಡಿದ ಕಂಬಗಳು, ನೋಡುಗರನ್ನು ವಿಸ್ಮಯಗೊಳಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

ಗರ್ಭ ಗೃಹದಲ್ಲಿ ಪಂಚಧಾತುವಿನಿಂದ ತಯಾರಿಸಿದ ಎಂಟು ಅಡಿ ಎತ್ತರದ ಚಂದ್ರನಾಥ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಯ ಮೂರ್ತಿಯು ರಾರಾಜಿಸುತ್ತಿದೆ. 

ಆ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಅದ್ಭುತವಾದ ದೇವಾಲಯವನ್ನು ರಚಿಸಲು ಶಿಲ್ಪಿಗಳು, ಜನರು ಪಟ್ಟ ಶ್ರಮ, ಸಾಧನೆ ಯನ್ನು ಯೋಚಿಸಿದರೆ ಅಚ್ಚರಿಯಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. 

ಕಾರ್ಕಳ ಭೈರವ ರಾಣಿ ನಾಗಲಾ  ದೇವಿಯಿಂದ ವಿರಚಿತ 50 ಅಡಿ ಎತ್ತರದ ಏಕಶಿಲೆಯ ಮಹಾ ಸ್ಥಂಭ ಇದೆ.

ಸುಮಾರು ಒಂದು ಗಂಟೆಯ ಕಾಲ ಅಲ್ಲಿದ್ದು, ನಂತರ ಅಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಹೊರಟೆವು.

1. Swami Vivekanand:- I can’t find free time. Life has become hectic.

Ramkrishna Paramahansa:- Activity gets you busy. But productivity gets you free.

2. Swami Vivekanand:- Why has life become complicated now?

Ramkrishna Paramahansa:- Stop analyzing life.. It makes it complicated. Just live it.

3. Swami Vivekanand:- Why are we then constantly unhappy?

Ramkrishna Paramahansa:- Worrying has become your habit. That’s why you are not happy.

4. Swami Vivekanand:- Why do good people always suffer?

Ramkrishna Paramahansa:- Diamond cannot be polished without friction. Gold cannot be purified without fire. Good people go through trials, but don’t suffer.

Ramkrishna Paramahansa:- Yes. In every term, Experience is a hard teacher. She gives the test first and the lessons .

6. Swami Vivekanand:- Because of so many problems, we don’t know where we are heading…

Ramkrishna Paramahansa:- If you look outside you will not know where you are heading. Look inside. Eyes provide sight. Heart provides the way.

7. Swami Vivekanand:- Does failure hurt more than moving in the right direction?

Ramkrishna Paramahansa:- Success is a measure as decided by others. Satisfaction is a measure as decided by you.

8. Swami Vivekanand:- In tough times, how do you stay motivated?

Ramkrishna Paramahansa:- Always look at how far you have come rather than how far you have to go. Always count your blessing, not what you are missing.

9. Swami Vivekanand:- What surprises you about people?

Ramkrishna Paramahansa:- When they suffer they ask, “why me?” When they prosper, they never ask “Why me?”

10. Swami Vivekanand:- How can I get the best out of life?

Ramkrishna Paramahansa:- Face your past without regret. Handle your present with confidence. Prepare for the future without fear.

11. Swami Vivekanand:- One last question. Sometimes I feel my prayers are not answered.

Ramkrishna Paramahansa:- There are no unanswered prayers. Keep the faith and drop the fear. Life is a mystery to solve, not a problem to resolve. Trust me. Life is wonderful if you know how to live.

Long ago, the Apsara Menaka had a daughter with Vishwavavasu, who is raised by Sage Sthoolakesha. The daughter named Pramadwara, grown up, the sage decides her marriage with Sage Pramathi's son Ruru.

Unfortunately, before the marriage, a snake bites Pramadwara and she dies.

Ruru, so much in love with her, also decides to die, but Devendra intervenes  and tells Ruru that Pramadwara can be brought back to life by requsting Yamaraja.

PUNYATMA - JANARDHANA HANDE

So Ruru with Devendra and Pramadwara's real father, Gandharva King go to Yamaraja and rquests him to bring back life of Pramadwara, but Ruru has to give half of life years.

Ruru agrees for that, Pramadwara come back to lefe and they live happily afterwards.

PUNYATMA - JANARDHANA HANDE

As we were late in joining the show, we could witness the last one hour of the presentation, which was excellent. The dance, abhinaya, dialogues were allo very good.

The Brahmana (Janardhana Hande) coming to Ymaraja's court was very humorous and acted nicely with suitable dialogue and dance.

The play (Prasanga) was well presented and was written by H. Sujayeendra Hande.

Swami Jagadatmananda, joined Ramakrishna Ashram in 1960, and since then he has been in the service of Ashram at various places. He is highly learned scholar, knowledgeable person and written a beautiful book "BADUKALU KALIYIRI", in Kannada, which has translated in 9 different languages and sold more than 3 lakh copies.

June 1992

He was 89 years passed away yesterday, 15th November 2018, at Mysuru.

He was LakshmiNarayana, first son of Sanskrit Scholar, Balekudru Srinivasa Kedilaya and Sridevi

We visited him few times in Ponnapete, where he was in charge of Sharada Ramakrishna Ashram for number of years. He was also relation, as his father, Srinivasa Kedilaya from Balekudru, is my mother's brother.

Brahmavara Mahatobara Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple was a favouraite place during my school days.

During long vacation, I used to go there for serving during marriage function organised by Late Lakshminarayana Bhat, then chief of the temple.

This time when we in ooru, I happen to hear about the MahaRudra Yaaga at the temple and we went to visit the place on the way to Putturu, Udupi.

Lot of people were present at the ocassion, Yaaga was in Progress.

We stayed for a short time and left from the place.

ನಾವು ಇತರ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗ ಬೇಕಾಗಿರುವುದರಿಂದ ಅಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಹೊರಟೆವು.
