SHRI KSHETRA GOMMATAGIRI

 Tuesday, 13th May 2025

Goomatagiri., Near Mysuru.

Gommatagiri is a Jain temple and pilgrimage site located near Hunsur in the Mysore district of Karnataka, IndiaIt's known for its 700-year-old statue of Gomateshwara (Bahubali), which is a smaller, yet similar, version of the iconic statue at Shravanabelagola. The statue is situated on a 50-meter-high hillock called Shravana Gudda.

On our way back from Hunsur, we took diversion towards GommataGiri, about 25 Km, when we reached. The place was under renovation and visitors were not permitted.

Amma and Kavitha managed to go up on the steps, about 75, see the Bahubali Statue closer.

It's Shri Kshetra Gommatagiri Digambar Jain Temple, Bettadur Village, Mysuru Disttrict.

There is also "JALA MANDIR", where 24th Jain Thirthankara, Neminatha, Spiritual Guru, is worshipped.

Atharv did not come for photo, playing around.

Spent about half an hour and left from the place for Srirangapatana.

The Forest Department has spent Rs. 1 crore towards its development.
In an endeavour to raise awareness about human-wildlife conflicts, concerted efforts are underway to educate tourists visiting the Mathigodu Elephant Camp about wildlife conservation. This initiative seeks to foster a deeper understanding of the delicate balance between human settlements and wildlife habitats, with the hope of mitigating such conflicts in the future.

Currently, the Mathigodu Elephant Camp is home to a distinguished herd of 17 elephants. Among them are Abhimanyu, Bhima, Mahendra, Ravi, Somashekhar, Masti, Ashoka, Kyaata, Chamundeshwari, Bhuvaneshwari, Srikanta, Abhi (Zoo elephant), Rama, Ekalavya and two forest elephants.
