The Shivanasamudra Falls is on the Kaveri River after the river has wound its way through the rocks and ravines of the Deccan Plateau and drops off to form waterfalls.The island town of Shivanasamudra divides the river into twin waterfalls. This creates the fourth largest island in the rivers course. A group of ancient temples are located here and there likely was a village.
This is a segmented waterfall occur where the water flow is broken into two or more channels before dropping over a cliff, resulting in multiple side by side waterfalls. It has an average width of 305 meters, a height of 98 m, and an average volume of 934 cubic meters / sec. The maximum recorded volume is 18,887 cubic meters / sec. It is a perennial waterfall. The time of best flow are the monsoon season of July to October.[
Due to very good rainfall this year 2013, river Kaveri was full and dams are overflowing.
We decided late in the morning for a trip to Shivanasamudra, a distance of 135kms from Bangalore, to see chukki falls again. It was 10.00am when we started from Birthi Mane, Hebbal, reached Ramanagar Loka Ruchi by 12 noon, had some idli, packed some food and left from there.
It was Sunday, July 27, and we were five in the car, mom, ravi, rishi & vidya...... and it was 2.30pm when we reached almost near to Bhara Chukki Falls. Owing heavy traffic and the bridge using trafiic from one direction, and the usual attitude of people, the road was choked. After waiting for half an hour, we made a U-turn and headed to Gagana Chukki falls. There also was a huge crowd, but we could reach the spot.
The view was fantastic, water gushing and falling with full fury..... it was pleasure to see and experience...... almighty God's creation and nature's beauty.......
After spending about an hour, and having eaten the packed food, started for return journey. Though I took a right turn at Malavalli, we headed in the direction of Kanakapura and evetually reached Kengeri via NICE road and to Uttarahalli, which was the destination, before we evntually reached Hebbal.
