ಇಂದಿನ ಗಂಡು ಮತ್ತು ಹೆಣ್ಣಿನ ಆವರಣಗಳನ್ನು ಮಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ನಾಟಕವು ರಾಜಕೀಯೇತರವಾಗಿ ಮುನ್ನಡೆಸುತ್ತದೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಗಂಡಸು ಸಮಾಜದ ದೌರ್ಬಲ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಬಹಳ ಆಪ್ತವಾಗಿ ವಿಮರ್ಶೆಗೆ ಒಳಪಡಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ನಾಟಕವು ನಮ್ಮೊಳಗಿನ ಮನುಷ್ಯ ಸಹಜ ಮರುಕ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಹಾನುಭೂತಿಯನ್ನು ಉಂಟು ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ.ಈ ಮೂಲಕ ಹೆಣ್ಣನ್ನು ಅರಿಯುವ ರೈಟ್ ವಿಸ್ಡಮ್ ನ ಕಂಪಿನ ರೂಪವಾಗಿ ಈ ಮಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ನಾಟಕವು ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಗಾಡವಾಗಿ ಆವರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
ಗಂಡು ಮತ್ತು ಹೆಣ್ಣು ಎಂಬ ಸೀಳು ನೋಟದ ಜ್ಞಾನದ ರಾಜಕಾರಣವು ಗಂಡಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಣ್ಣನ್ನು ಅರಿಯಲಾಗದ ದೌರ್ಬಲ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಕಾರಣವಾಗಿದೆ. ಗಂಡಸಿಗೆ ಹೆಣ್ಣಿನ ಮೈಯಿ ಅರ್ಥವಾಗದಸ್ತು ಆಕೆಯ ಮನಸ್ಸು ಅರ್ಥವಾಗದಿರುವುದು ಈ ಸಮಾಜದ ವಿಕಲಾಂಗ ತನವೆಂದು ಬಿಂಬಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
Dr K Y NarayanaSwamy , through his plays, tried to show the societies inequality and disputes between man and woman. The feelings and emotions of woman subdued and hurt by history are awakened by seeing the drama.
The play starts with a young man waiting for his wife to return from work for cutting cake for his birthday, badly hurt when she doesn't return and suspects her to have other relation and commits suicide. The wife is interrogated by a police officer trying to find the reasons, through which audience are made understand the feelings of woman.
The drama goes back to folk stories of olden days of neighbouring kings Malligeraya and Chennigaraya who were childhood friends.Here, Malligeraya unable to understand the feelings of his wife or overconscious of his taking care, visits his friend Chenigaraya's Kingdom, Since he was not able to perform his special smiles with mallige flavours, Malligeraya was punished for insulting the kingdom with sedition charges.
The play is serious to room for thinking why such things have been created by history and society, which is still happening after generations.
The play directed by Prakash Shetty and live music and songs provided by T Nayak, stage setting, lighting, costumes dialogues are all excellent.
