It's multi-talented Jevaragi Rajanna Company Natakotsava, from 9th Aug. - 13th Aug.2018
A typical village drama must have a story, music, dance, colourful & shining costume, comedy, attractive stage decor, and punching dialogues with double meanings.
"Amara Phala" is one of such drama, presented by North Karnataka Nataka Company, Jevaragi.
Story line is a rich man Devaraya and his wife DevaRani, have no children. He goes to Swamiji Guru and receives a fruit (Phala) which was obtained after five years of "Tapasya", with a promise that it mast be eaten alone without anyone seeing and he becomes immortal (Amara - ಅಮರ )
Devaraya gives the fruit to his beloved wife, who in turn gives it to her lover Mailari, a servant in the house. Mailari in turn gives it to his lover Malli, who brings it back to Devaraya. This raises doubt on Devarani's loyalty and love to her husband who gets terribly depressed and eats the fruit with poison, seeing this, Devarani also dies eating poisoned fruit. The dialogues are highly theatrical.
To make the drama lively, there is group of comedians who does all kinds acts, dance, songs, jokes and dialogues and passing time more than half the drama.
Stage decor with different screens with garden, palace, streets, etc as per scene. Accompanying background music was loud with a punch at every dialogue, recorded songs complimented by live accompaniments, keyboard and drums. Dance performance with film songs were entertaining to mass audience.
150 - minutes drama has seen hundreds of shows at different places over the years.
