Shankaranarayana Temple, ShankaraNarayana (GoliKatte)
On the way back from Basavani, we stopped over at ShankaraNarayana, as it was on the way. We visited the temple and had darshana of the Lord and spent about half an hour.
Lords Shankara and Narayana are jointly worshiped here. This is one of the holy places created in the Western Ghats by great Sage Parashurama. The other places are Kukke Subramanya, Udupi, KumbhaKashi (AaneGudde), Koteshwara, Kolluru and Gokarna.
These seven holy places are compared to seven RamaKshetras, which are Ayodhya, Mathura, Kashi, Kanchi, Maya, Avantika and Puri.
The legend depicts that Sage Kroda Maharshi meditated in KrodaGiri cave to Lord Shiva and Vishnu to kill demons Kharasura and Rakthasura.
The main deity is Udbhava Linga, Shankara and Narayana, one feet below the ground level.
There is also a tank called LotiThirtha in front of the temple.
We left from there to drive back to Birthi Salekeri, a distance of about 45 km.
