One of the popular festival of Sanathana Dharma is Birth of Sri Krishna, eight avatara (descent) of Vishnu.

The festival is celebrated as Shri Krishna Janmashtami (or Gokulashtami)  throughout the world.

Krishna was born to Devaki and Vasudeva on the night of Ashtami, Krishna Paksha of Shravana ?Bhadrapada month.

As he was eight son of Devaki, and her brother King Kamsa fears that he is going to be killed by Krishna, Vasudeva takes the newborn across the river Yamuna to Gokula, where he grew up his foster parents Yashoda and Nanda.

Janmashtami celebrations are fasting, praying, pooja, preparing special items like chakkuli, laddu, avalakki, payasa etc.

It is customary that nothing should be eaten before offering to Sri Krishna during pooja.

Pooja is normally performed late (should be at midnight) after which only permitted to eat.

As all are anxious to eat chakkuli, laddu and avalakki, pooja is performed earlier and have prasada.

Mom cooked number of items, fruits were offered, thus Krishna was born.

GREETINGS TO ALL ON THE OCCASION OF SHRI KRISHNA JANMASHTAMI

GOD BLESS.
