"AYUDHA PUJE" is part of Navarathri festival, which is performed on the ninth day, MahaNavami day.

It's also called Astra Puje, worship of instruments.The principal Goddesses worshipped during the Ayudha puje are Saraswathi (Goddess of wisdom), Lakshmi (Goddess of wealth) and Parvathi (Divine mother).It is pray for the instruments and vehicles to perform well.

At BirthiMane, we had two cars and a Bullet Bike, were washed in the morning. KumKum and Arashine placed, decorated with flowers, after the incense lighted, aarthi was performed.

Lemons were placed under the wheels for all the vehicles and they were moved to smash the lemons.

KUKKE SUBRAMANYA - TEMPLE VISIT

Subramanya Temple is located in the village of Subramanya in Karnataka. In this Temple KARTHIKEYA is worshiped as Subramanya, Lord of all serpents. The epic relate that the devine serpent VASUKI and other serpents found refuge under Subramanya when threatened by Garuda.

River KumaraDhara flows near the temple, overlooking KumaraDhara mountains, un-hidden beauty of nature and greenery surrounding the area.

ASHLESHA BALI is one of the important KaalaSarpa Dosha performed at the temple. Lord Subramanya is the protector of KaalaSarpa Dosha and Kuja Dosha. Devotees who register for the seva pay Rs.400 per person and report for Sankalpa at the Purohit. After ten minutes of the Sankalpa procedure, they enter SriKshetra temple and wait for the pooja and Poornahuti, about 15 minutes procedure. Afterwards they will receive Prasada, with satisfaction of seva performed.

Large number of people register for this seva everyday, and it is done one a mass scale with shifts, 7 am and 9 am, each shift having more than 500 devotees.

We stayed in a nice home stay with swing and a beautiful surroundings with greenery, and it is a short distance from the temple. The room is clean and neat and a swing in the premises.

We attended Mahamangalathi in the night at 7.30 pm and Prarthane and Ashlesha Bali Seva, the next morning at 9 am.

Kukke Subramanya is about 280 km from Bengaluru via Hassan, and afterwards on the bad road to Sakaleshpur, Shiradi Ghat, again bad road to Gundya and then to Subramanya. On our return journey, we came via Sullya, Madikeri, Hunsur, Mysuru which was a distance of 310 km on a good road.

We were five in Ravi's Verna car, Me, Mom, Ravi, Vidya and Rishi and on our return, stopped over at Hunsur at Sathisha, Mom's brother's house and had lunch, reached home at 9.30pm after tiffin at LokaRuchi at RamaNagara.

GET - TOGETHER : COLLEGE FRIENDS

That was to celebrate the meeting of college friends, room mates after life journey of 50 years.

Shalini, Harini, Nalini, Shashikala

After finishing college at M G M College at Udupi, each one had their own direction of movement for life and continued their profession and did not have chance to meet and rewind those days of staying together in rooms of Amruth Kamath near Kalsank, Udupi.

It was nostalgia of those days of mischief, cooking, sharing, eating, washing and staying together in shared rooms in the first floor of Amruth Kamath.

Life journey -

Ramachandra Somayaji, married to Harini, worked as Lecturer for couple of years and joined Indian Bank and retired as AGM  and now settled and living in Bengaluru. Son Arvind, software, married, Wife Ambika, two children, boy and a girl.and settled in USA. Daughter Asha, a dentist, married to Dr. Harsha, living and working Bengaluru, two daughters.

Padmanabha Sahasra - married to Shalini, both worked as Teachers in High schools and retired, two sons, both working in Bengaluru, one married and other yet to marry. Now retired and living in Gundumi, near Udupi

Jayarama Shetty - from Karja, married to Shashikala, completed his PhD and went to USA and has been working and living, US Citizen. Has two sons, both married and settled in USA.

LUNCH AT RASOVAR RESTAURANT

Jayarama Somayaji married to Nalini, both worked as teachers in Nigeria and Dubai for 39 years, relocated to Bengaluru and living spending time and enjoying. Daughter Shubha,software, married to Raghu, has a daughter Lahari. Two sons, Ravi, software, married to Vidya and Rishi, Game designer, yet to marry. All are working and living in Bengaluru.

We had a great time remembering those days, had lunch together at Rasovar restaurant at UB City and said good bye and hope to meet again.

NAVARATHRI BOMBE (GOLLU) - 2019

Navarathri is Hindu Festival, celebrated for nine days (NavaRathri), culminating on the tenth day, celebrated as VijayaDashami. It is the most auspicious days in the year, celebrated with much fervor and activity. It is also to commemorate MaaDurga's win over demon Mahishasura, representing victory of peace and dharma over ego and adharma.

The nine forms of Goddess Durga(Parvathi) are:
1. ShailaPutri,
2. BrahmaCharini,
3. ChandraGhanta,
4/.Kushmanda,
5. SkandaMata,
6. Katyayini,
7. KaalaRatri,
8. MahaGauri,
9. SiddhiDhatri.

Tenth day is celebrated as VijayaDashami.

Dussahara, celebrated on the VijayaDashami day, with lighting of temples. In Mysuru, there are massive celebrations with lot of cultural and entertainment programs.

Navarathri Dolls (Golu) display is part of festivities, and some families display every year, adding new dolls to their collections and displaying for 10 days. Friends, relations and well-wishers visit the house and appreciate the Golu display.

This year, there was a special display of Navarathri Dolls at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Bengaluru, by group of enthusiasts, including Sowmya Srikanth.

The display is superb with creativity and imagination of stories from Ramayana and Mahabharatha. Each unit tells a specific story from the epic, whether Seetha Svayamvara, Krishna Leela.

One of the fantastic creative representation is UDUPI SRI KRISHNA mutt and the surroundings.

Hats of to people who spent time and energy to present the beautiful exhibition of BOMBE (Dolls)
