Thiruvananthapuram, (Trivandrum), Kerala (God's Own Country)
The richest and famous Sri AnanthaPadmanabha Swamy Temple in ThiruvananthaPuram, has Lord Vishnu as the main deity, in Ananthashayana Posture, the eternal yogic sleep on the serpent Adisheshan. It is built in the intricate fusion of Kerala and TamilaNadu style of architecture associated with temples.
The temple has been referred to in the Sangam period between 500 BC and 300AD. It's also referred to as "The Golden Temple" because of unimaginably wealthy.
The deity is Padmanabha reclining over Adishesha. The serpent has five hoods, facing inwards. The Lord's right hand is placed over ShivaLinga, SriDevi and BhooDevi. The diety is made of 12,008 Saligramas, brought from Gandaki River in Nepal.
There is very strict dress code to enter the temple. Men in dhoti only, shawl and ladies in sarees and otherwise must cover the body with white dhothi, which could be purchased at the entrance. Mobiles, cameras are not permitted.
We had darshana two times, one at 4 am in the morning of Tuesday 15th May and the second time at 11 am on Thursday, 17th May, when there was lot of rush and crowd, waiting in the queue for half hour. We also had lunch Prasada at the temple, served on a steel plate, after waiting in the queue for one hour. The items were rice, sambhar, chanacurry, buttermilk and pickle. There are tables and chairs suit and eat comfortably with hot water to drink. The steel plate need to be washed nicely and returned where a person checks the cleanliness.
One can feel the vibrations when you enter the sanctum sanctorium for darshan and feel energized.
