Visit to Sundaresans
It was in 1977, when I was working in Govt. Sec. School in a small town, Gombe of then North Eastern State of Nigeria. Then came a family with two daughters from Madurai, to work in Govt. School in Gombe. They were Sundaresans, Kannada speaking, very affectionate family, wife Prema and daughters Priya and Usha.
As it was a small community of Indians, we became close to them, visiting frequently, outings and get-togethers etc. My daughter Shubha was one year old, and due to unforeseen incidence in 1978. I decided to leave from Gombe, leaving Shubha at Hebri.
I started working in Banjul, The Gambia, a tiny West African English speaking Country, but due to poor conditions, I left from that place after a year and came back to Nigeria to work in Yola, the capital of Gongola State. Sundaresans shifted to Yola to work in Polytechnic and we had the chance to meet often. Ravi was born in that place on 6th Jan. 1982, when Prema Sundaresan was like a mother to Nalini and was with her throughout the night during her labour.
As the years passed, we left from Yola and from Nigeria to work in Dubai in 1986 and they also returned to Chennai, to work as Professor of Mathematics.
They visited us couple of times in Bengaluru here, after we were relocated in 2010.
We were very much disturbed when we heard that Prema Sundaresan had paralytic stroke and blood clot a month ago and she was in ICU of Appolo Hospital and after few procedures she was sent back to the house. When we visited them in their house in Tambaram Sanatorium, Chennai, she was in a state of trance, under the care of a qualified nurse.
Priya and Usha, their son, Srinivasan and his family, Bhuvana and son Rakesh, were all there, hoping and praying for the recovery of Prema Sundaresan.
We spent some good quality time remembering those days spent together.
Left from their house after 3 pm to catch Shatabdi Express from Chennai Central and reached Bengaluru at 10 pm
