Temple Visits to SRI MALE MAHADESHARA BETTA, TALAKADU, T. NARASIPURA

That was a whole day trip organized by Nalini's Brother Sathish, from Hunsur, travelling in Tempo Traveller (TT) with 11 members.

We 2, Sujatha, daughter Dr Smitha, Sathisha, wife Malathi, sons Aruna & Aditya, Ramakrishna his wife Kavana  and Vijayalakshmi.

We started from Hunsur at 6 am, and first stop was for breakfast at Mysuru, HOTEL HARAHARA .

After travelling a distance of 130 km, passing through Kollegala, Hanuru, reached base of Male Mahadeshwara Betta.

After travelling another 25 Km in the hills and forest, we reached Male Mahadeshwara Temple.

1. SRI MALE MAHADESHWARA SWAMY TEMPLE:

Male Mahadeshwara Hills is a well-known pilgrimage centre in the State. It is a hill range located in the Hanur taluk and is 3,200 feet above sea level. It is told that MM Hills constitutes of seven hills ‘Elu Male’ namely Anemale, Jenumale, Kadumale, Kanumale, Ponnachimale, Pavalamale and Pachchemale.

The ancient and sacred temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is a very popular Shaiva pilgrim centre. The deity of the temple is in the form of a linga. According to records, a Veerashaiva Saint, Mahadeshwara who lived during 14th-15th centuries, settled on the top of this hill and attained samadhi (salvation). He had a large number of devotees and thus this area became a sacred place. In his honour, the temple was constructed here.

There was large queue for Darshana, it took about half an hour to complete.

Another belief is about URULU SEVE, people lying on the road and rolling round, so that their difficulties will be heard by Lord Shiva (Mahadeva).and bless them.

2. TALAKADU:

At Talakadu sand covers the temples. Stone pillars, square at the base and made to fit into a wheel below the abacus, lie scattered about. Among the temples of Talakadu, the Pathaleshwara, Maruleshwara, Arkeshwara, Vaidyanatheshwara and Mallikarjuna temples, the five Lingas believed to represent the five faces of Shiva, form the Pancha pathi and have become famous.

3. MUDUKU THORE (ಮುಡುಕು ತೊರೆ) - Means river /Stream diverted

There is beautiful Shiva Temple on the top of hill, climbing up about 200 steps, overlooking the beautiful scenery, and river bent.

The place gets its name "Mudukuthore" from the stream Cauvery because it gets a flip and flows forward. Muduku suggests that 'diversion' and thore means 'flow forward'.During Mahabharatha, Arjuna, one in all the Pandavas stayed here on the Hill. He sculptured the idol of Lord Shiva and did pooja with "Mallika pushpa" (a quite flower). That's the rationale the Lord Shiva is termed Mallikarjuna.

4. TIRUMA KOODALU NARASIPURA:(T.NARASIPURA)

There is beautiful temple at the confluence (Sangama) of three rivers Kaveri, Kapila dn Spatika. The famous Gunja Narasimha Swamy Temple is on the bank of river.

Another attraction is TEPPA RIDE, a lerge metal bowl like structure, where more than 10 peole sit around and the rider takes you pushing the Teppa with wooden stick. It is about 15 min pleasant ride, overlooking sunset, splashing sacred river water and enjoying.

It was 8 pm when we reached Mysuru, all had dinner/snacks in Hotel Ashirvad Grand at Ilwal, and returned to Hunsur by 10 pm, thus ending fantastic day trip.
