Morning, as usual, after heavy breakfast, we set out for sightseeing of Angkor Temples, with guide Mr Nivath.
In the itinerary, we had number of items like Banteay Kdei,
Srah Sarang, 10Century, built as Royal Swimming pool,
Ta Prohm, 12Ccentury, photogenic and atmospheric combination of trees growing out of ruins and jungle surroundings,
Thommanon - Temple dedicated to Shiva and Vishnu, is small but elegant,
Prasat Kravn, 10 C built of reddish brick towers
Mebon, 10 Century, stands on a artificial island dedicated God Shiva,
Pre Rup, 9 century, only temple in the region built with brick, laterite and sandstone construction,
and Preah Khan.
Preah Khan temple in Angkor, Cambodia, built in 12th century for King Jayavarman VII to honour his his father. The temple is flat in design, with a basic plan of successive rectangular galleries around a Buddhist Sanctuary complicated by Hindu satellite temples. This has been left largely unrestored with numerous trees and other vegetation growing among the ruins.
Since 1991, the site has been maintained by the World Monuments Fund, continued cautious approach to restoration. They running a glorified maintenance program.
PreahKhan is oriented toward east and the main entrance. There are others at cardinal points. Each entrance has causeway over the moat with Naga carrying Devas and Asuras.
While the main temple was Buddhist, other three were dedicated to Shiva, previous Kings and Queens and Vishnu respectively. On the northern temple, Vishnu reclining on the west and Trinity Vishnu, Shiva and Brahma to the East. On the western temple, Krishna raising Mount Govardhana to the west.
It was quite tiring to walk, climb and get down. In spite of sitting for a while, thinking of how life could have been, in those golden days and the glory of Angkor Empire. The dedication, support of rulers and the artisans, architects in those days amazing, skills and the muscle power must have made those temples and we are seeing the ruins after more than thousand years.
We also a group of war veterans, disabled, maimed sitting on shelter, playing music with different instruments.
