KULEN MOUNTAINS - CAMBODIA

Thursday, 28th December 2017

Today again, after heavy breakfast at the hotel, we set out to Kulein mountains, (Phnom Kulen) a distance of 50 km and about an hour and half hour drive from the hotel.

It is also believed to be sacred (holy) hilltop site, where Hindus and Budhists come for pilgrimage.

Guide Mr Nivath was ready by 8 am and we took of to countryside drive, the usual tar road and on the way stopped over near village side to see the sugar making locally.

The highest of the mountain is 487 m and an average of 400 m all along. In spite of large number of tourists visit the place, the hilly road is not good at all. We reached the top of the mountain around 10 am visited the 1000 lingas on the riverbed and place of natural spring water.

Kbal Spean was known for its carvings. Just 5 cm under the water's surface over 1000 small linga carving are etched into the sandstone riverbed. Carvings include God Vishnu lying on his serpent Anantha, wife Lakshmi at his feet. A lotus flower protrudes from his navel bearing of God Brahma. The river ends with a small waterfall and a pool.

There is also a large statue of reclining Buddha, built in 16th Century, called Preah Ang Thom, is sacred and worshipping God for Ku Len Mountains.

After the visit to reclining Buddha, we proceeded to waterfalls area, spent some time in the flowing river. There were lot people came picnic with food and spending time.

Proceeded back to city for lunch and then to famous TonleSap Lake.
