NIMITTA is Kannada Drama written and directed by S N Sethuram, distinguished actor and Director. His previous Dramas we have witnessed GATHI and ATHEETHA, both are equally thought provoking.
The play NIMITTA is about a urban family, the challenges they face particularly women .
Heart Surgeon doctor, analyses the meaning of memories and "aayush" of a person, which he say should not be too much.
A 60 year old man in the hospital ICU, with severe heart and kidney issues, mother of 78 years taking care, narrates about how he was brought up, becomes a bindaas man with no goals, taking loans, drinks and other habits. Marries at 20 years, wife at 16 years accepts him with no choice.
Two daughters, both educated working overseas, and have children and family. Mother working was with them on leave and came to look after the man in the hospital.
The dilemma she faces lives with him, looking after the children, and the real difficulties.
The man in the hospital bed has no regrets for how he lived and talks all big philosophy.
Finally the doctor decides he doesn't deserve to live any more.
Striking phenomenon of Sethuram's plays are strong dialogues and the dialogue delivery by the actors. All the actors presented themselves beautifully, mother the old woman, wife, and daughters, man in the ICU, and the Doctor.
The wife requests the Doctor to keep the husband in ICU for two months or more, no matter what its costs on conditions of no visitors and mobile phones.
The 90 - minutes play has no dull moments, with the audience giving rapt attention, and sympathising with the plight of the family ,the way the society behaves and the vows of women in the male dominated society. Pathos, anger, helplessness, love, hatred, respect, all brought out well by the actors.
The actors are Nithish Sridhar (Director), Deepika Aaradhya, Bhamini Nagaraju, Siri Prahlad, Suraj Kiran, Malini Rao, Goutham PuttaSwamy
The music, sound and the lighting was appropriate to the situations.
