BEECHI RASAYANA - KANNADA DRAMA

BEECHI (1913 - 1990) was a famous humorist in Kannada Language, written several books, mostly containing humour, sarcasm and punch. He was also known as Kannada's George Bernard Shaw.

The play is framed from Beechi's notable book "THIMMA RASAYANA" . It is form of dictionary, but not in the traditional way. Beechi had coined different meaningsmfilled with humour, philosophy and a touch of seriousness relating to daily usage words.Certain words are picked and framed according to situation which create laughter.

This play is blend with Uttara Karnataka dialect blend with mythology and devotion elements

His book "Thimma Rasayana" containing lot of insight into life and other issues, even now regarded as top works of Beechi.

The play "BEECHI RASAYANA" highlights the issue of arranged and inter caste marriage. 

GuruMoorthy (Babu Hirannayya) is elderly, open minded jovial person where as his wife, Godfearing, pious lady wants his son (Shridhar) to get married to a girl within their caste only.

Sridhar is a very good actor in the drama and wants to marry a co-actor (Radha), from a different community.

Megha, another girl, from the same community doesn't like Sridhar and has her boyfriend. 

Further story brought out on stage with beautiful dialogues, Shridhar becoming Lord Shiva and Radha becoming Parvathi, Megha marrying her boyfriend, all brought on stage with great humor and good acting by all actors.

One very striking dialogue about the caste (ism) was about  HONEY - 

Sweetness enjoyed by Brahmins,

To secure and protect - Kshatriyas, 

Selling and marketing- Vaishya,  

Taking care and bitten - Shoodra.

Few people in the audience were given wedding invitation and in general were invited to the stage, to join the wedding scene in the play.

The 90 - minute play has all throughout laughter and fun, punching dialogues, good acting, costume , songs, lighting, props and stage management.

It was also house full show at  Seva Sadan hall, Malleshwara.
