Ranga Shankara, NammaBengaluru.
This Kannada Drama was of different type. It's mixture of old kannada, sanskrit with beautiful songs rendered melodiously with a mild background. There were two presentations. First one was about Keechaka-Draupadi about 70 minutes and the second was Raavana-Sita.
In both the presentation, it was the woman who suffers due to man's ego that eventually surrendered.
The acting, dialogues and costume was superb. There was also touch of Yakshagana element seen in the play and the roles of Keechaka, Bhima, Raavana and Draupadi (Sairandri) were well enacted.
The scene of AshwaMedha horse presented was unique and was fantastic lighting effect.
The play is rendering of selected stories from Kumaravyasa and Kuvempu's epic. The story displays the transformation of self when interfaced with elements of human passion.
The play treats the turbulent life of Draupadi (living in hiding as Sairandri) in Virataparva of MahaBharatha. Kumaravyasa's treatment of story brings to fore Kichaka's conflicts in life mirroring the brittle human face.
Kuvempu's epic Ramayana Darshanam shows the demon King Ravana's transformation from a lustful life to exalted human being.
The play asserts its contemporaneity with its foray into concerns of modern society.
