Kundadri Hills, Western Ghats, near Sringeri.
Kundari is hill famed for trekking expedition in the western ghats of Shimoga District. It's lies about 3200 ft above the sea level and extensive vegetation adorns the slopes of the hill.
It's about 12 km from the main road from Sringeri to Agumbe. Going by car is also possible but the road is steep and has higher difficulty level and many a times one has use first gear in the sharp turns and steep climb. We were four in Alto Car, and were little tensed while going up. However, reached the top and engine was hot.
You climb about 75 steps to reach the top of the hills and a beautiful scenery, A Jain Temple and a large pond on the rocks with water, The doors and ceilings of the Temple (Basadi) is so low that you have to enter bending or crawling. It;s Bhagawan 1008 Shri Thirthakar Basadi and there is priest explaining about the temple, recently renovated.
It was very pleasant to walk around the temple on the rocks and in a small room behind the temple, a Jain Muni meditating, and according to the priest, he remains there for nine days without food and water.
Coming back was easy task and returned to main road, drove back home.
